Peter Reynolds; inspires, and changed my view of children’s books.

NorthStarOne may ask why do I prefer children’s books over most novels. Well I stumbled upon a book called The North Star by Peter Reynolds. My father had just passed away and I was looking to connect myself to something through reading. I tried to immerse myself in stories that were full of emotion and multiple characters but just felt like I would get my head confused with my thoughts and the life situation of the main characters. lionandbird_dubucThe book “The Lion and The Bird” written by Marianne Dubuc is a must have addition to anyone’s personal library. The illustrations draw you in to a beautiful story of friendship. As a mighty Lion is working in his garden he finds a little bird who has been wounded. The Lion mends the birds wound, but the rest of the bird’s flock has left for the winter. Continue reading

Born in the Wild: Baby Mammals and their parents by Lita Judge

A great big 4 Thumbs up for: Born in the Wild by Lita Judge is one of the best nonfiction picture books I’ve read. The illustrations are simply beautiful and full of detail. You really can see into the heart of Lita Judge and her passion for animals. Her details in the way the baby animals interact with their parents is perfect. While the reading is light it gives children just the right amount of factual information to appreciate the care, love, protection and nurturing the mammal species share. Judge draws children closer to their environmental world through the facts and similarities the children see in the care animals and humans share. The end of the book also offers more detailed information on the animals mentioned in the story for readers who want to know more.
