One may ask why do I prefer children’s books over most novels. Well I stumbled upon a book called The North Star by Peter Reynolds. My father had just passed away and I was looking to connect myself to something through reading. I tried to immerse myself in stories that were full of emotion and multiple characters but just felt like I would get my head confused with my thoughts and the life situation of the main characters. One day while walking and meditating of sorts I passed by a small book store. I’m a sucker for coffee and books so I stepped in. The first thing I saw was the cover of The North Star. I picked it up and didn’t even peek inside. I purchased the book and took it home to read to my daughter. As we started to read I started to cry. She asked why I was crying. I told her that the story is about a little boy growing up following the The North Star. He was asking himself did he want to go where everyone else was going or did he want to follow his own path…(The North Star). As a parent you want to nurture and foster you child to follow their dreams. Peter Reynolds shows how this is done in story and illustration!
I love this book. I can’t even put into words how great the message is for children and teens and adults who are stuck in a path of life where they just don’t know which direction to go. Follow YOUR North Star!
